Meta automatically excludes wrong audiences in new customer acquisition mode

TLDR

Meta's Customer Lifecycle Strategy is auto-excluding incorrect custom audiences when you select new customer acquisition, forcing manual review to avoid targeting errors.

Jon Loomer discovered that Meta's Customer Lifecycle Strategy feature automatically populates an exclusion list when you opt for new customer acquisition mode, but the pre-filled custom audiences don't match actual existing customers and are incomplete. The feature generates predictions without user input, creating a gap between what Meta thinks should be excluded and what advertisers actually need to exclude. Meta did not auto-populate the engaged audience field the same way, leaving the exclusion behavior inconsistent. Loomer notes the broader UX confusion: existing customer segments already defined in Advertising Settings appear to have the same name as exclusion fields but function differently, adding unnecessary complexity to campaign setup.
